  • 15 Feb 1864: CORIO DISTRICT ROAD BOARD. A Special Meeting of this Board was held at their Office, West Geelong, on Wednesday, last, 10th instant. Members present - Messrs Cooper (chairman), Kirk, Morris, Beach and Thomson.
    The Chairman explained the object for which the meeting was called, viz:—To entertain appeals against the rate of assessment for current year. The following appeals were then heard :— PARISH of MOORPANYAL.
    Widow McLean, Batesford—valued at L10, rate remitted.5
  • 19 Aug 1899: An old and highly respected resident of Batesford named Mrs Catherine McLean, relict of the late Mr Murdoch McLean, died suddenly on Thursday evening, and on the circumstance being reported to Mr J. H. Dardell, junr., J. P., he dispensed with the formal holding of an inquiry, and gave a certificate for burial. The deceased, who attained the ripe age of 80 years, was a resident of Batesford for over half a century, and she had enjoyed excellent health up to the time of her death, the announcement of which came with startling suddenness on her many friends. She leaves a family of three grown up sons, who are comfortably circumstanced. The funeral is appointed for to-morrow, and the place of interment is the Eastern cemetery.6
