  • 17 Nov 1858, INVESTMENT.-For SALE, by PRIVATE CONTRACT, the well-known GLENISTON FARM, adjoining the township of Berwick. The improvements consist of three cultivation paddocks, two grass paddocks, a four-roomed cottage, garden, detached kitchen and servants'-room, men's hut, dairy, storeroom, barn ; also, dairy and stock yards. John Inglis, Esq., the proprietor, being about to leave the colony, the above-described property will be sold cheap. About 70 acres of crop given in. Terms liberal. Horses, Bullocks, Dray, and Implements can be taken at a valuation. Apply to A. M'Arthur and Co., at Kirk's Bazaar, Bourke-street ; or to the proprietor, on the promises.7
  • 20 Jul 1916, Mr. John Inglis, a very old Victorian identity, died recently at his residence, Gleniston, Wellington-street, Kew, at the age of 89 years. He was born at Burntisland, Scotland, and, when 21 years of age, came to Melbourne. He was partner with the late Mr. Guthridge in the first line of sailing vessels between Melbourne and the Gippsland Lakes. At one time he was mayor of Sale. Mr. Inglis owned properties at different times at Berwick, Tallangatta, Benalla, Kiewa, Buchan, Tarwin Lower, and Koonwarra. He leaves a daughter and four sons. His wife died about seven years ago.8
