The bride journeyed from Victoria, and arrived here per the s.s. Paroo the day previous to the wedding. She was attended by her sister at the ceremony, which was performed by the Rev. W. Sharp, and Mr. J. C. Baird acted as best man. The s.s. Paroo, by which boat Mr. and Mrs. Lecky proceeded to Port Hedland, was gaily decked with bunting in honour of the occasion.6

  • 9 May 1900: We regret to announce the death of Mr James Steiner, which took place last night. He was an employe at Thompson's foundry, and just about finishing his apprenticeship. He is a brother to Mr Carl Steiner, Art Master at the local School of Mines, who on account of his brother's death will not be in attendance at the School until Monday evening. The deceased was a very popular young man, and a member of an old and respected family in this district, and his death will be deeply regretted by their many friends.4
  • 11 May 1900: The esteem in which the late Mr. Jas. H. Steiner was held a as shown by the large attendance at his funeral yesterday afternoon, the interment taking place in the Campbells Creek Cemetery. Preceding the hearse walked about fifty employe's of the Foundry where deceased was employed. Two mourning carriages were followed by about thirty private and public vehicles and amongst the mourners were Lieutenant Colonel M'Cay, Captain Newell and Sergeant-Major Garland, deceased being Lance-Corporal of the 4th Battalion. The coffin and hearse were covered with memorial wreaths, including one from Messrs Thompson and Co's Foundry. The service at the grave was conducted by the Rev Minor Canon Sutton Messrs Niebuhr and Son had charge of the mortuary arrangements.5
